DESIGN AND CHALLENGES
One of the biggest challenges with expansive backyard spaces is creating visual balance.
This property includes a pool, spa, outdoor kitchen, guest house, extensive retaining walls, mature hardwood trees, gardens, and multiple seating areas. Without a carefully designed lighting plan, these individual spaces can feel disconnected once the sun goes down.
Our design focused on creating intentional layers.
The home’s architecture serves as the visual anchor, while surrounding landscape lighting adds depth without overwhelming the space. Mature trees were illuminated selectively to frame views and add scale. Hardscape lighting was integrated into retaining walls and steps for both safety and architectural interest.
Special attention was given to the outdoor entertainment areas, where lighting supports conversation and relaxation instead of overpowering it. The pool remains a stunning focal point while surrounding lighting helps create a comfortable, resort-like atmosphere.
